Ann Mitchell
Contemporary Artist
Ann Mitchell is an Irish contemporary artist working in oil, gold leaf, mica and collage.
Her paintings are built slowly through layers of paint, abrasion, collage and repeated reworking. Earlier marks are allowed to remain, becoming part of the finished surface. Rather than concealing what came before, each painting carries its own history.
Her current body of work, Her Skin, Her Armour, explores memory, vulnerability, resilience and transformation. The figures remain deliberately unresolved, allowing viewers to bring their own memories and experiences to the work rather than being given a fixed narrative.
Mitchell's work is held in private collections throughout Ireland, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Australia and the United States. She is represented by Urban Oasis Art Gallery in Tullamore and works from The Far Room Studio in County Offaly, Ireland.

Active participant in community arts and street theatre under the direction of Sandie Hughes. Participated in parades and a wide range of practical arts workshops, including mural painting, mask-making, costume design and construction, and performance skills such as juggling. The experience introduced me to collaborative, multidisciplinary art-making and the relationship between visual art, performance and community.
